Family Network on Disabilities (FND) was founded in 1985 by a group of parents of children with disabilities who came together for mutual support and information-sharing. FND is a grassroots organization for persons with disabilities and their families that is family-centered and family-driven. This presentation will inform participants of all of the FND programs offering free help and information to families of students with disabilities and the professionals that serve them.

We will cover a wide variety of topics related to special education, effective communication, resources, and much more.
On December 13, 2023, we will present a workshop on ‘Transition to Kindergarten’. This is a dynamic and interactive workshop that helps children with disabilities transition to kindergarten along with their families. By addressing the common questions and concerns that come along with this important step in the lives of families, “Transition to Kindergarten” will help families understand their rights and responsibilities as active participants in the process.

Collaborative Communication
In this presentation, you will learn about different forms of communication to help you effectively advocate for your loved one. This includes: What are the different forms of communication? What’s the difference between active and passive listening? How does collaborative communication help me? How do I incorporate this information when meeting with teams to understand and effectively advocate for necessary services for my loved one?
Effective Parent-Teacher Conference
Having a parent-teacher conference is an opportunity to collaborate with the goal of a better academic and social outcome for the student. This presentation will explain setting expectations for the meeting and developing a meeting agenda and goals to help facilitate a productive meeting.
