Webinar: Transition IEP & Moving Forward

Please join parent training specialist Sassafrass Mittleman on Friday, May 10th at 6 pm (EST), as we discuss transition and what it means to the IEP and services.

The Transition IEP is the most important part when it comes to helping youth with disabilities learn how to successfully transition from high school to post-secondary opportunities. This workshop helps to teach everyone exactly how to make the most of the TIEP, and how to best work with youth with disabilities to make sure they have the tools and information to fulfill their post-secondary goals.

Kidfest

Come say “Hello!” to FND POPIN Parent Training Specialist Glenesha Milner for an exciting day of celebrating children at Panama City’s Kidfest! She will be at the Family Network on Disabilities resource table with free information about our services.

Kidfest is a 27-year-old family event that features children’s activities, entertainment, food, and, most of all, fun for the whole family.

More than 100 area organizations and businesses set up various types of free activities for children of all ages, while numerous entertainers showcase their talents throughout the day. Last year, approximately 5,000 people from Northwest Florida and South Alabama attended the event.

Early Education and Care hosts this event each year, with all proceeds benefiting the organization. Kidfest is EEC’s major fundraiser, which not only supports EEC’s programs but also celebrates children and enhances family involvement.

From Substitute Decision Making to Supported Decision Making

Imagine…..Having your capacity to make decisions, sign contracts, vote, defend your rights in court, or choose medical treatments taken away simply because you have a disability. Individuals with a disability need to know the difference between Supported and Substitute Decision Making and what that means. This presentation will explain the difference. Knowledge is Power.

Effective Parent Teacher Collaboration

Workshop Summary
Having a parent-teacher meeting is an opportunity to collaborate;
the parent and teacher need to set expectations for the meeting and come with ideas and open communication. Laying out the meeting agenda and meeting goals then sticking to them will help facilitate a productive meeting. We must remember like an IEP meeting our overall goal is the student.
