Parents: Supporting Learning During the COVID-19 Pandemic
(2020, August) | Created specifically for parents and updated for the new school year, IRIS Center offers this user-friendly, multi-media learning module. It includes practical tools and easy-to-implement strategies to help children learn at home during COVID-19. Parents can find practical tips to get children ready to learn, strategies for reading and mathematics instruction, support for children’s social and emotional well-being, and considerations for the parents of struggling learners and students with disabilities.

For Children with Deaf-Blindness: Ideas for Activities at Home During COVID-19 Pandemic
(2020, April) The National Center on Deaf-Blindness (NCDB) has created a web page for families called Ideas for Activities at Home During COVID-19 Pandemic. It provides resources to help children who are deaf-blind continue to learn and have fun while schools are closed.

Learning at home can be as repetitive as learning at school: same-type worksheets on subject after subject. Because variety is the spice of life (and learning), parents can refer to this list of creative ways that children can demonstrate what they know. It’s great food for thought and sparking a child’s motivation to keep learning.

Feeding the Children on Reduced or Free Lunch Programs

The article discusses state laws, CDC guidance, USDA waivers, and the many ways that schools and others can continue to provide children with this extraordinarily valuable service.
