Supported Decision-Making

August 5, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

Please join Parent Trainer, Sassafrass Moore, on facebook.com/popinfl, Friday, August 5th at 5 PM (EST), as we will discuss many of the sensitive topics that are entwined in the adult transition process. We understand that this can be a scary time for families and of course, the individual themselves. Where should they/I transition to? Will they/I be able to work? There is a multitude of guardianship options and it can be hard to know what to do. Families know all too well that adults with disabilities can be the victims of financial exploitation, but sometimes, even the most well-meaning families can go too far in protecting their adult children. As such, it is important for families and especially, the individuals themselves to learn to advocate for themselves, make decisions, sign contracts, vote, defend their rights in court, or choose medical treatments. Today there are many supports for persons with disabilities, to enable them to live independently, decide to work, vote, access their own healthcare, etc. Let’s discuss how to help you/the individuals we love to make supported decisions and find their voice and place in the world.
