Nuts & Bolts of Self-determination

Soren Richardson will present the workshop on Thursday, February 16st, 2023, from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Zoom and live in CFAC Facebook group.

Workshop summary

Students who have self-determination skills have a stronger chance of being successful by addressing the need for self-determination skills among adolescents, including some of the major components of self-determination, which are: knowledge of self and others, personal management, effective communication, self-advocacy, and Advocacy within systems, decision-making, goal setting & problem-solving. These experiences help a young person test his or her strengths as a self-advocate. Adult outcomes for the students were assessed using a scale completed by parents.

FND PEN is hosting a series of webinars with the Central Florida Autism Community on the last Thursday of every month. We will have a wide variety of topics related to special education, advocacy, and self-care.

In this presentation, we will learn how a child develops emotionally, what impacts a child’s emotional development, identify how trauma can impact health, mental health, and family dynamics, learn how to create the story you want to tell, and get resources to support your child and family.
