October Newsletter: Resources for People with Disabilities in Florida
Among others, October is the Awareness Month for Bullying Prevention, Down syndrome, and Disability Employment. During this month we have developed several educational materials in both in English and Spanish to help families and professionals create awareness regarding these important topics that affect our community.
Why is so important to create awareness about bullying prevention in our communities?
As reported by Stopbullying.gov,
“No single factor puts a child at risk of being bullied or bullying others. Bullying can happen anywhere—cities, suburbs, or rural towns. Depending on the environment, some groups—such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (#LGBTQ) youth, youth with #disabilities, and socially isolated youth—may be at an increased risk of being bullied.

What about Disability Inclusion in the workplace?
We all can make a positive difference if we join forces to create opportunities for our students, youth and adults with disabilities.
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month
Do you know, Kayla McKeon, she is the first U.S. registered lobbyist with Down syndrome. What a better way to celebrate Down syndrome awareness month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month than sharing this inspiring video of her sharing her story at the #NDEAM celebration in New York last Tuesday?
All these materials are Available for Download
In reality awareness months are just opportunities to highlight these topics and bring positive discussions about them; however, awareness is done on daily basis through our commitment to strengthen inclusive communities. For that, the information above along the full collection of these educational materials are available for free. They can be used as training materials as well and can be posted online, downloaded for printing, or shared on your social media pages or embed on your website from the original link on Facebook.
